How to create a meaningful life

The number one thing I hear when people set up time for a consultation with me is that they simply don’t feel fulfilled anymore. The days are continuing in an almost monotonous fashion. They go to work, survive the waterfall of emails, tornado of issues and brace themselves with hope that at the end of the day when they get spit back out, they are still in one piece. They go home, eat dinner, maybe do some quick catchup in hopes the next day will be better, then fall asleep watching Netflix. By the time they get to the weekend, their only desire is to rest. But the house needs to be cleaned, the kids have activities and before they know it, they are swept up in a different whirlwind that puts them right back in the face of Monday, doing it all over again.

If this sounds all too familiar, you haven’t done anything wrong. It simply means that you’ve found yourself in the passenger seat and allowed someone or something else to drive for a while. It happens to all of us at different points in life and sometimes we don’t even notice it right away. Once you realize it, you can decide to take back the reins and choose differently.

One of the reasons we don’t take the reins is because we haven’t allowed ourselves to dream in so long that we simply don’t know what a meaningful life looks like anymore. These areas make up the many aspects of our life. Many times when we set goals, we simply look at our professional work, but what about the rest? A meaningful life is multi-faceted. Creating an intentional picture of what that looks like and then taking the steps to create it is the way we can create meaning throughout our entire life.
