Get unstuck and build a life you love

We all have those times when it feels like we are just treading water, not really going anywhere and sometimes not even knowing where we want to go. All we see is a vast expanse of water surrounding us and even though we know we have to start swimming before land will come into view, we just can’t seem to make a decision on where to start. You are officially stuck.

The first thing you need to know is that this is completely normal, it happens to all of us humans at various times in our lives. Sometimes it’s during a period of transformation, when limiting beliefs are at the forefront of our mind, holding us back from the uncomfortable. Other times, we can focus on something so intensely, that we create our own reality. Ever hear the story of what happens when you let fear into the driver’s seat? It sees a lamp post, gets so intensely focused on it that it can’t see anything else, then proceeds to drive straight into it. That’s exactly what happens to us when we let fear dominate our lives. Then, there are the times when we become so focused on others’ needs, that our people pleasing ways lead us down a path to losing sight of ourselves. And finally, getting stuck can also be a factor of continuing to carry the past with us or simply living unconsciously out of habit.

Many people choose to do nothing except to sit and wait for their circumstances to change, in hopes that it fixes the problem. But I’m going to give you a different path. One that puts you back in the driver’s seat and headed towards your desired destination in 3 easy steps.

  1. Identify exactly where you are stuck and why. Many times we think we feel stuck because of the external environment – our job, our body’s inability to lose weight, a loved one’s behavior – and really, when we start to look at why, it is our own thoughts and beliefs about it. So if you aren’t sure how to answer the questions of where and why and want to explore it with someone who will ask many great questions to get you to the answers you are seeking, a Life Coach is an excellent resource.
  2. Define your goals and where you want to go. Sometimes we can feel stuck and have the desire to get out of it, but not know where we would go if we did. By defining your goals, you can start to build a roadmap for what success would look like if you were able to get unstuck. Defining your goals also gives you a one way ticket out of the sea of problems that many of us are surrounded by, when feeling stuck.
  3. Choose new beliefs that move you towards your goals. Even if it’s different behaviors you are seeking, a change in beliefs will help produce the emotions you need to propel you into action. Develop beliefs that directly challenge the thoughts that are keeping you stuck and practice these beliefs daily. When doubt comes up, remind yourself it’s normal, simply part of the growing process. Then keep working towards the future that you desire.

While we all get stuck from time to time, don’t let the obstacles that are holding you there, pile up like dirty laundry. Start doing the wash frequently and take control of the situation.
