Why you need to celebrate your wins

My son has been going to weekly skills training for soccer and each week when he gets in the car, he gives me a verbal rundown of how he did. With a big smile on his face and excitement in his voice…

Mom, you should have seen it.

My weak foot shots went just as long as my dominant.  You couldn’t even tell the difference.

I got my best results ever on the figure 8’s, like I’ve never gotten that many ever.

We crushed everyone in 3v3’s and won almost all our matches.  You should have seen one of  my teammates, he was on fire and our passing was just perfectly in sync.

And all I can think is…we should all be celebrating our wins so openly and freely

Celebrating your wins focuses your brain on what you are creating, not just what you aren’t.

Celebrating your wins teaches your brain that you are someone who creates success.

Celebrating your wins gives your brain a job, to create even more success.

Celebrating your wins creates positive momentum and energy moving forward.

It wasn’t until I started working with a coach that I realized, I wasn’t celebrating my own wins. I celebrate the heck out of my kids, husband and friends, but rarely myself. In fact, the first time my coach asked us to celebrate our weekly wins in the group, my brain was like…malfunction, malfunction, we don’t do that here!

I’ve learned to lean into that discomfort, so I committed to posting those wins every single week. Sometimes the wins are small and posting at all is one of the biggest wins. Other times, there are much bigger accomplishments to celebrate. The key is that there is ALWAYS something.
